Spiderman on the Wrong Bus

I had one of those funny moments last night – you know ones where you have a look at something your kids have done and…

Just have a big old laugh

There was Spiderman sitting on the LittlePeople bus, looking totally like a fish out of water. Completely out of place.

Spiderman On a Bus

Then it got me thinking, you see for a long time I was Spiderman. I was the odd man on the bus.

Certainly no-one told me I was the odd one out – and I don’t even know if anyone else knew it, but I felt that way. You see I was looking to go somewhere different with my business, I wanted to have an amazing business, and the people around me didn’t seem to want that. And I was desperate to find people who did.

You see I believe you make things easier for yourself by hanging out with people who want the same thing as you. People you can bounce ideas off, people who can inspire you, challenge you, push you. People you can turn to when you’re stuck, and people who support you in going for what you want.

I don’t know if you’ve had the same experience as me, but being a business owner who’s going for it, who wants to go out there and help a lot of people and yes make a lot of money can seem like a very lonely road.

But here’s the funny thing, the more clear I am on what I want, the more it seems to turn up. So the more clarity I gained on the people I wanted around me, the more they started showing up in my life.

And hey if this sounds a little bit weird or woo woo, then I’m going to say whatever. I care about results, I care about what works, and I’ve seen this work time and time again. So today I am blessed to still be Spiderman, but now on my bus I have Professor X, Ms. Marvel & The Silver Surfer.

Who do you have on your bus? Is it who you want or not? If not, define exactly who they are, and keep your eyes peeled – they’ll turn up.

Relax and Chill Out

Posted by Andrew Baird on January 12, 2010

Welcome to 2010 – Here’s to another fantastic year :D .  My first post for this year is based around what we spent our New Years break doing – relaxing and chilling out.  And it’s something that is vital for us to do – life can be so hectic these days (whether you own a business or not) and it’s crucial that we create some space to step away from everything and rejuvenate.

We spent ours at Oreti which is a blissfully quiet resort beside Lake Taupo.  I had discussed with my Coach what we would do at the end of the year to know that we had made it and achieved so much during the year.   I got a clear mental picture of relaxing on a deck with both the kids asleep and us looking out over Taupo – fortunately Kim was able to find the resort that fitted my mental picture.

We intentionally set it up so that we did relax and renew ourselves – no TV, no games, just books and quality time together as a family.  I read Andre Agassi’s new book “Open: An Autobiography” – which is an amazing read and I know I’ll read it again – plus I’ll probably do a post on what I got out of the book.

We also spent some time working more on the Vision for Amazing Business and this has really helped us hit the ground running this year – and to know what to focus on and what to delete.  I realised last year that Vision was the big thing that was missing and holding us back, and given how inspired I have felt for the start of this year I know it’s building powerfully on the work on Vision we did last year.

So far it has also confirmed for me a theory that one of our clients (who has taken a new business from $0 to worth over a million dollars in less than a year) has – he believes that the way you start your year sets the tone and the energy for the year ahead.  Here’s to more of this energy because I’m loving it – how did you spend your New Years?

How to Make Your Dreams Come True

Posted by Andrew Baird on May 06, 2009
Business, Personal / No Comments

If you’re like me then you have dreams and goals, things that you want to achieve in your business and personal life. Today I’m going to let you in on a hot tip on how to turn them into reality, here it is:

Fall in love with the process, not the dream.

Now when I heard this I was stopped in my tracks, I went wow, that is profound. All too often we fall in love with want we want to have, whether it’s that dream job, that dream business deal or the old classic more money. The problem is if we’re focused just on what we want, and not what we need to do to get it then we may never reach it.

We absolutely want to keep our goals in mind as a reference point, but we need to be taking the actions to get us there. Plus here’s where this saying goes into overdrive, if you’re in love with the process of making the dream a reality is it easier or harder to do? Of course it’s easier, you’re going to be more in the flow and more aligned with what you’re doing.

Of course there will be obstacles on the way to our goal, but the more we can be in love with the process of achieving it the more easily we will reach it.

I wish you all the best in making your dreams come true.

Rock Band Rocks

Posted by Andrew Baird on May 01, 2009
Fun, Games, Personal / No Comments

So last weekend I got the boys around for a round of Rock Band – if you haven’t played it I highly recommend it. In essence it’s a console game with electric guitars/drums and microphone and you can play classic Rock Songs together.

We had the full kit so one person on drums, one on guitar, one on bass and one fantastic singer ;) . The difference of four players over 1, 2 or 3 is actually quite extreme because when one person is in overdrive (playing like a Rock God) it gives you a big boost to your stats and you can play at a much harder level than you normally would.

I won’t reveal the identities of the other players (you know who you are ;) but the standout performances for me were GB on drums playing Rock Away Beach on Expert – I haven’t managed to do it on Medium yet! RP playing bass with mucho groove time and JT singing Are You Gonna Be My Girl.

Thanks guys that was a whole lotta fun.
